COWPER & NEWTON MUSEUM
May and June have been busy months at the Cowper
and Newton Museum. There have been events such
as Museums at Night, Open Gardens Weekend and
our Fundraising Walk to Cowper’s Alcove in Weston
Underwood (photograph taken by Paul Evans), as well
as a visit of 90 students from Olney’s Infant Academy.
July will be no different as we will be getting ‘down and dirty’ for our new Archaeology Weekends! on Saturday 13th and 27th July from 10.30am to 4.30pm. We encourage you to bring any of your archaeological objects from home to be identified by our visiting Finds Liason Officer and her team of metal detectorists. While both Sundays the 14th and 28th July, from 10.30am to 4.30pm, we will hold archaeologically awesome activities for both children and adults.
In between our archaeology weekends we will be hosting an all-day event of woodcarving with the British Woodcarving Association on Sunday 21st July from 10.30am to 4.30pm.
Throughout July we will also have Dee Cosford (see page 27) display her beautiful artwork. Entrance to our Gallery is free! We also have special summer Sunday Museum and garden openings all of July and August from 12pm to 4pm.
We are a registered charity and run almost entirely on the efforts of our wonderful volunteers. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer of the museum why not stop by for a chat or email us at info@cowperandnewtonmuseum.org.uk or call 01234 711516, we would love to hear from you.
Ousedale School Refurbishment Project
The refurbishment and new build development of the Newport Pagnell campus has finally started. Over the next six months we are refurbishing the Maths Block and adding a small new section. Today I dug the rst hole on the site of what will be the new Maths extension; student ambassadors, senior staff and the construction site manager joined me. We did apply for funding to support the project, but sadly we were unsuccessful. Consequently, this has restricted the amount of work which can be completed. However, I am delighted for the students and staff that we are able to improve some of the learning environment at Newport Pagnell.
I am sure our parents who are former students would agree that the Maths Block is well past its shelf life; we are celebrating our 50th year anniversary! The project has been carefully planned to minimise any disruption to students and ensure value for money is achieved. The School is grateful for the outstanding preparatory work which has taken place prior to Watson & Cox starting on site, in particular our project management team at Jackson Coles, Milton Keynes and our architects at Stephen George & Partners, Leicester. We hope to move into the refurbished
block in January 2014.
