Phew and Wow
Barry & Ann Walker
We had reason to be extremely grateful to Orchard Press Olney in December. They fitted in a printing job at very short notice, at one of the very busiest times of their year.
We always ‘do’ our own Christmas cards - no, not because we’re mean (well, maybe a little bit). No, the real reason is that one of us (not me) paints and the other of us usually scans the pictures into the computer, sets up a file, fiddles about a bit with layout and stuff and then prints off as many cards as we need.
Well, this year – disaster! Printer coughed, spluttered and spat big dark lines everywhere. Aaagh! No time to sort it (is there ever?) so quick, run to Ron, who introduced me to Graham, who calmly said “send it to me on e-mail and we’ll have a look”.
The same afternoon – yes, really – I got an e-mail to say they were done. And how!
Done better than well, better than v good, better than anything, not just ‘in the circumstances’, but without doubt the best we’ve ever had.
To be honest, with the benefits of such a superb, professional, hassle-free service ‘on the doorstep’, I think we may well prefer to go down that route whenever we want more printing.
Dementia
Emberton Parish Council Karen Goss
Emberton Parish Council would be very grateful if you could notify your readers of the following information:
A Traffic Order which prohibits all motor vehicles from driving through the High Street and Olney Road, at their entry point into Emberton, except for access, between the hours of 3pm and 7pm, Monday to Friday came into force in August 2013.
The reason for the introduction of the restricted access was that residents had highlighted to the parish council, the number of vehicles that were using Emberton as a shortcut to avoid the queue of traffic on the A509. The Traffic order still allows vehicles to access Emberton for a genuine reason e.g. visiting a friend or relative or delivering a parcel. On 11th December 2013, a number of officers from Thames Valley Police undertook an enforcement of the restricted access and issued advice to a total of 75 drivers who were breaching the Traffic Order. The vehicles were directed back onto the A509. Thames Valley Police will be undertaking further enforcement on an undisclosed date. The Order, under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, can be enforced in a number of ways, including arrest, reporting for summons or by way of a fixed penalty ticket.
I read in last month’s Phonebox about the work being done in Olney in relation to dementia.
I have lived in Olney for the past 31 years, and currently work with people who have dementia at a local psychiatric hospital and I am a Dementia Friend Champion with the Alzheimer’s Society (part of the PM’s Dementia Challenge to build dementia friendly communities).
I would be really interested in linking up with the Olney project and Joy Oehlman, but I could not find any contact details with the article. I wondered if you would be able to help me?
Many thanks,

The Olney Dementia Project was in the Olney Mercury Report on page 28, Inga. Joy Oehlman presented a report at that meeting which was organised by the Friends of Cobbs Garden Surgery.
Joy has a one-year contact, you can find out more from the surgery. Also Mark Lancaster MP mention the project in his article on page 26 of this month’s magazine. [Ed]
