Debbie Brock Councillor Corner 'Freedom of the Borough is seldom awarded and has only been granted on three occasions previously, it is the highest honour that a council of a city or borough can bestow'. FreedoOmfTheBorough - ChangTeoBsuRsout2e7s/4/201-4 suffered recently with the common problems of moles and others making the surface pretty rough , as well as more up to date play equ.ipment needed . The fences were also in a pretty poor state and were in need of replacement. The recreation ground is owned by the parish council however as a small parish cannot afford to provide the facilities that many larger villages can without massively increasing the local precept. The Parish Council, with our support, have been very proactive in trying to find other sources of funding and over the past few years have sought and received grants from Milton Keynes Council and also from the National Hockey Foundation. They have also used some of their own funds to put towards the project. The National Hockey foundation do not just fund projects related to Hockey in Milton Keynes but support all sport, especially projects that increase youth participation . They have funded schemes in the last few years at the Olney Cricket Club and Tennis Club and are looking for other projects in Milton Keynes. The project in Ravenstone will provide a great facility for both residents and visitors to the village and will do so for many years to come. This was in recognition of the national and international profile of the team as a result of their outstanding success and the resulting contribution to the economy of the Borough and the region. Freedom of the Borough is seldom awarded and has only been granted on three occasions previously, it is the highest honour that a council of a city or borough can bestow. Previous recipients have been; The Right Honourable The Lord Campbell of Eskan, former Chairman of Milton Keynes Development Corporation in 1982, Dr James Marshall OBE in 2009 and Dame Cleo Laine in 2011. In 1998 The Royal Green Jackets (now known as The Rifles Regiment), were bestowed Freedom of Entry into the Borough. The Mayor proposed the motion which was seconded by Council Leader Cllr Andrew Geary, guests and members were invited to speak and MK Poet Laureate recited a poem, "The Team That Never Sleeps" and the vote was unanimously passed in support of the motion. A framed copy of the motion was presented, printed on parchment from Cowley 's, Newport Pagnell 's Parchment Works , together with a Rosebowl. With the Council resolution passed Christian Horner OBE signed the Freeman's Book, witnessed by both The Mayor and the Council 's Chief Executive David Hill, and then both he and Adrian Newey OBE spoke warmly in response. In finishing they presented the Mayor, on behalf of the borough , with a mounted Red Bull nosecone which will no doubt shortly be on display at the Civic Offices. From Sunday April 27th the bus routes for Lavendon, Olney and all the villages on the route of the current number 1 service are changing. As part of the regular re-tendering of bus routes in Milton Keynes, the service provider has changed and the timetable slightly changed too, this has apparently allowed the timetable to better suit work and school peaks. The new service will be called the 21 and the operator has changed to Redline Susses. The number 37 bus has also been changed , the route remaining the same but some changes to times , the operator will now be Vale transport. This tender was let a few months ago and after that time Milton Keynes Council also received notice from a commercial operator that they will be starting another service to Buckingham and onwards to Steeple Claydon . This will run through many of the stops in MK that the 21 will, so will give far more choice for bus users. A new bus timetable and user guide will be published very soon well in advance of the new services starting. If however you have problems getting hold of the times then please let us know and we will get you a copy of the new timetable .
