Update March 2014
he Action Group is now formally Testablished and is meeting regularly to research and review new information relating to wind turbines andtothisapplication; toprovideresponsesto
or negative and we will ensure that they are taken into account.
Negative Impact on the Community & Property Devaluation
Milton Keynes Council Planning department ;
to liaise with statutory consultees and other
interested organisations and to manage an THE Daily Telegraph recently published an
active campaign against the approval of the wind turbine development.
Let's be clear about our motivation. We are not against the concept of renewable energy. But this turbine is the wrong development in the wrong location for the wrong reasons. It will permanently alter the character and tranquillity of our much-loved village.
Planning application progress
The planning application was formally lodged with and accepted by Milton Keynes Council on September 9th 2013, with a target determination date of 4th November 2013. The applicant has failed to provide all of the required information therefore the Planning Officer has been unable to determine the application by the target date.
Overwhelming Local Opposition
Over 500 objections have been received not just from Hanslope , but from residents of Castlethorpe , Yardley Gobion and Grafton Regis and their respective Parish Councils. Overwhelmingly local public opinion remains against the turbine.
Statutory consu !tees have also expressed objections to and reservations about the development. English Heritage has described the potential impact of the turbine as "only just short of substantial". There are also serious concerns about the impact on protected bats, TV signals (virtually all of the village will be impacted) and the disruption caused on local roads .
By way of balance ,we have received a couple of positive comments about how the turbine would "look pretty ". As ever, we welcome all villagers to express their opinions , positive
article based on a study by the London School of Economics (LSE) that reviewed property prices on over one million homes affected by wind turbine development over a 12-year period. It states, "Wind farms proven to cut house prices by 11 percent" - or in the case of an average £250,000 around £27,000 off its value" - within 12 miles of a development. A Hanslope turbine could blight all of the village property values for miles around!
TV Reception & Mobile phone Reception
According to the developer's own research , 1245 houses in the village will have their TV reception affected. One house will not have any conventional TV reception at all, while the others will all have problems with the Sandy Heath and Oxford transmitters. The entire village is going to face some disruption and potentially significant additional cost in ensuring they retain some TV reception. Those in the Conservation Area may have severe problems in getting an alternative service due to restrictions on the placement of satellite dishes.
Orange has reported that one of its two cell sites will be affected and as Orange coverage is already poor in the village any degradation could make the service unusable.
Noise
Noise remains a huge issue but is widely misunderstood . It's not conventional noise; it's frequency-soundwave noise that never stops. People who have suffered from this in other turbine areas have described it as, "a throbbing, pulsating character that may be heard indoors without respite , 24 hours a day for as long as the wind blows above a certain
speed and in certain directions". Recent scientific studies have shown that turbine noise significantly affects people 's health , contributing to blood pressure , heart and other serious problems. Children are particularly badly affected and this can severely affect their growth and learning development. However, as yet the school governors have not objected to the turbine.
