he Olney Delicatessen has been a feature Tof Olney's Market Place for many decades . Its current owner , Dee Gill , is celebrating notching up 17 years in charge by
expanding the tearoom .
It's a very special place, not just on account of the treasure trove of delicious things that can be found there. Presiding over her stock of cheeses, pies, cakes, delicious home-made ready meals, chocolates and all kinds of goodies, Dee specialises in looking after her customers. The Deli prides itself on providing that personal touch that keeps people coming back. "It's not just about making sure she stocks the things you know you like," says Catherine, a regular customer. "She's always on the lookout for new things that she thinks you'll like. And you always do!"
Dee loves her shop, which she staffs with her team of friendly assistants . A lot of the food is homemade , including her sought-after quiches and soups, and she makes Indian dishes to recipes and methods handed down by her mother.
The newly expanded shop now has more space for sitting and scoffing the delicious sandwiches , salads and cakes , which the Deli provides for many of Olney's lunchers . With her bigger and better tearoom, who knows what Dee will be serving up in future? You can find out for yourself , as the Deli is having an open afternoon on Wednesday, 14th May between 2-6pm, including some free tasters and a talk by the makers of the locally produced Wodehill Blue cheese in Odell.
