More rambling Duration: circa 3.5 miles about 1 1/2 hours, there are a few stiles, a walk with gentle climbs up through fields and small woodlands and by the River Great Ouse, there are fine views of the Ouse valley and Olney's surrounding countryside. Emberton Park is also nearby. Olney is situated on the A509. There are pubs and cafes in Olney and a pub in Clifton Reynes for refreshments. . . Park in or near the Market Place in Olney but please make note of timing restrictions in all cases. Cross the road from the Market Place by the pedestrian crossing, on the wall above the Olney Delicatessen is the plaque showing the start line of the annual pancake race. . . . l' t ,, ., 1. Leave the Market Place area and head south on the A509/ High Street South/Bridge Street from Olney, follow the pavement out of town over the two main river bridges, with Emberton Park on your right. Shortly after the footpath entrance into Emberton Park (and just before the closed off lay-by) there is a fingerpost walk sign by a gate across the road, caution here and cross the road and over a stile into a field. Keep to the right hand fence and in twenty yards or so there is a stile/bridge to the right through a hedge; once over, turn left and follow the path with the hedge on your left to a stile a few yards in from the left corner and then diagonally right across to the right hand corner of the next field. Pass through into the next field and keep slightly left, soon 2. a path comes in from the right, ignore this and cross a ditch, continue to cross another ditch and stile. Keeping slightly diagonally left continue straight across a large field towards some trees. Keep to the right of the trees and through a gate, climb diagonally right up through the rough ground to find a stile in the gap through the hedge in the middle of this ground, continue across the next field to a stile and gap in . ,,,, . . . . ••• ,, ., the hedge. Follow the path diagonally to the right and then follow the .. 3. right hand perimeter of the field to a gate in the hedge and then left into Church Lane. Follow Church Lane through the village to the church of St. Mary the Virgin and then follow the lane round to the left, just after the buildings on your right pass through the gate into a field, and then keep diagonally left to a stile near the bottom right hand corner of the field; cross the stile into the rough ground and descend diagonally right towards the river, follow the causeway to a gate and the bridge across the river to another gate. 4. Follow the main path across the meadows and cross a small bridge, head towards the church of St. Peter and St. Paul. Withthe mill race on your left look for a gated path to the left of a cottage. This leads into Church Street which leads back to High Street South, on your way you will pass on the wall on the left the plaque to show the finish line of the pancake race.
