very nature of satellite developments they will have some material dependence on the main development of Milton Keynes.
The consultation document has a number of questions in it and one is whether a self-contained garden city in the north of the Borough would be better than smaller satellite settlements.
Option 4 - Intensification and redevelopment of the current urban area
This would include regeneration of some areas of Milton Keynes and some intensification of housing in these areas. No models have been made of how many houses this could deliver, however it is unlikely that intensification and redevelopment alone would be enough to deliver the amount of homes needed.
What now?
While this is out for consultation our role as ward councillors is to make sure as many people as possible know about the consultation and are able to comment on the options. To do this we have organised a number of public meetings where residents
can come along, listen to a presentation on the options, ask questions and take away information about how to make your comments. The meetings will be as follows:
Mon 30th Nov - 3.30pm
Olney, St Peter & St Paul’s Church
Mon 30th Nov - 7.30pm
Olney, St Peter & St Paul’s Church
Thurs 3rd Dec - 7.30pm Moulsoe, Millennium Hall
Tues 8th Dec - 7.30pm Sherington, St Laud’s Church
Weds 6th Jan (2016) - 7.30pm North Crawley, The Institute
Our current view
We remain sceptical of these options. We want to hear your views on both the positive and the negatives of each option or alternatives. We feel little thought has been given to the massive ramifications of this type of expansion particularly into the rural areas. The sheer cost of the infrastructure for bridging the motorway and the river means
Plan:MK
the cost is likely to be prohibitive if we do not wish to see this area saddled with poor connection links. This is in addition to the fundamental way it will change, if not destroy, the current communities that occupy these villages and towns.
No decisions have yet been made and unlike previous plans these decisions are made in Milton Keynes by Milton Keynes Council. Please be assured that we will devote all our efforts to make sure the best interests of the rural areas are protected. The rural areas are one on Milton Keynes’ greatest assets and we must fight to ensure they are not destroyed for the sake of continuous growth of the city.
We look forward to seeing many of you in the coming weeks and months as this consultation develops.
