Emberton School
What’s on our doorstep?
At Emberton School we are particularly pleased that the very special nature of our school was recognised during our recent Ofsted inspection. The inspector’s comments included:
Children coming to our school can expect a lively, stimulating and wide ranging curriculum; plenty of outdoor learning; to feel safe and happy with pupils of all ages who care for each other and play well together. Parents can be con dent of a strong emphasis on high quality teaching; pupils achieving well in reading, writing and maths; pupils being happy, behaving well and leaving the school well equipped for junior school. We are very proud to be able to offer a unique experience for pupils and parents at Emberton. Parents are very welcome in the school and regularly join the children in their learning activities. “This is a de ning feature of the school”.
We continued our “What’s on our Doorstep?” theme with a visit to All Saints Church where we learned how the church bells work and had a go at ringing them too; and then took a special trip to Cran eld Airport where we saw aeroplanes big and small, hangars, re trucks and even the important view from the Air Traf c Control tower! We created brochures with guided tours of Emberton and at our Celebration Assembly gave them to our parents along with a “Where Am I?” quiz to test their knowledge of London, Milton Keynes, Olney and Emberton. Finally, we were thrilled that Lucy from Year 1 drew and coloured the winning entry in Davis Optometrists of Olney’s 2016 World Book Day competition. Lucy competed against children aged 4 to 8 across Bucks, Northants and South Leics with her picture of Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers and won herself a £25 book voucher together with £100 of book vouchers for the school. Well Done Lucy!
Olney Middle School
What is the wackiest way you can think of to raise money for charity? How about a conga line, of approximately 400
children, in the rain? Olney Middle School did exactly that, hosting a Conga-for-Wonga on Thursday 24th March and raising lots of money for Sport Relief!
At the end of the spring term the school hosted the lively event as a different and creative way to do a Sport Relief mile. Everyone was encouraged to wear white or red t-shirts, for a truly Sport Relief look, and brought in donations for the charity. Lined up in class groups the pupils created a school-long conga line, and with music playing out of the windows, they proceeded to conga around the entire school building, twice! Sainsbury’s very kindly donated left over Sport Relief merchandise (as the school event was held after the national event) which were also used to raise money.
Despite the light rain and breezy weather, spirits were high and the children sang and danced their way around the route. An incredible £391.92 was raised from the day’s activities – so well done everyone who took part and supported!
