West Street is a nightmare; many people who work in the town park in the street, and it%u2019s worse on a market day when Market Place is, of course, closed off and people coming into town from the villages park in West Street. They are obviously allowed to, but it makes the street become an obstacle course dodging in and out of cars when driving from Spring Lane, not to mention those who drive much too fast coming the other way. It%u2019s an accident waiting to happen.I hear that Long Lane has become a car park for people going to Cobbs Garden Surgery, and where will the tradesmen park when they start the house build on the convent site?A West Street residentYardley concernsDear Sir I%u2019d like to express our concern about the inaccuracies in the Mercury Report in the latest phone box magazine, Page 16, %u2018Public Participation%u2019.The Yardley Manor development is years behind completion and, understandably, residents are not happy. We decided to take some action and gathered support from over 200 residents door to door and formed a steering group of fi ve.%u00a0It was suggested we raise our issue of concerns initially with OTC asking for support. The steering group did this, and I sent a letter/email which was duly read at the beginning of the next council meeting by our Mayor Debbie Whitworth, who, it must be said, has been, and is, hugely supportive.%u00a0There are many discrepancies and distortions in the report which are insulting to the residents of Yardley Manor. Those who read the report may well now see us in a negative light, which is not in anyone%u2019s interest as we %u2018newcomers%u2019 try to integrate into the town and community. For example, we never %u2018gathered together in a posse%u2019 this implies aggression.%u00a0Diff erent words were used by the reporter, changing %u2018the town%u2019 in our letter to %u2018your town%u2019 in the report and %u2018the local economy to %u2018your local economy%u2019 to make it look like a them and us divisive situation.%u00a0We %u2018asked%u2019 for and didn%u2019t %u2018demand%u2019 the council%u2019s support.200 in the steering group numbers is incorrect and implies a threatening and intimidating approach. The letter clearly stated 200 supporters. The steering group is fi ve.%u00a0Later in %u2018update on YM playpark%u2019 section of the report we are called the %u2018Yardley Manor Mob%u2019.%u00a0All this creates a bad impression of Yardley Manor residents and our just cause, which is only to ensure the development is completed and to the standard promised.%u00a0The overall impression the reporter leaves is one of personal prejudice on his/her behalf; we wonder what the writer really thinks of the development and whether we should be here at all!We respectfully ask that you please acknowledge these discrepancies and make amendments in next month%u2019s magazine. With regards, Cath RogersYardley Manor Steering GroupDear Sir I would like to add my concerns to a complaint you will have received about the inaccuracies in the Mercury Report in the latest phone box magazine, Page 16 %u2018Public Participation%u2019.The report is inaccurate and purposely misquoted statements from concerned residents, perhaps in an eff ort to foment division and ridicule legitimate concerns. The public amenities at the Yardley Manor development are overdue and incomplete and understandably residents are not happy. They collectively decided to take some action, and several of them gathered support from over 200 neighbours by going door to door, and they formed a steering group of fi ve people to help channel communication. There are many discrepancies and distortions in the report which are insulting to the residents.andrew charles jeweller 46 High Street, Newport PagnellThe signifi cant rise in the price of gold recently may mean your jewellery would cost far more to replace than your existing valuation states.
