Thrilling matches on Finals Day

A very successful Finals Day entertained a good crowd who enjoyed some great matches.
The Mens Singles and Mixed Doubles was decided on exciting Championship Tiebreaks and the overall standard was really high. Thanks to the organisers, cakes makers, umpires and our ball boy, Ollie Maitland for making it such a good day. Here are all the results:

Leagues, Finals and Horses
Bletchley & District Bowls League
On Sunday the 6th September Olney Bowling Club hosted the finals of the Bletchley and District Bowls League. On a lovely sunny day Wolverton Town beat North Crawley in the mixed league and Chandos Park beat Woburn Sands in the men’s league. Players from all four clubs complemented us for our green, facilities, catering and bar. Olney were delighted to welcome the sponsor of the league, Roy Mason, in person along with his wife Ann to present the trophies in the afternoon.
Thanks to Jenny who provided over 90 lovely meals. Also many thanks to all the OBC members who helped make the day such a success.

Find the Joker
A competition new to Olney Bowling Club, and what a terrific start! With 48 cards drawn the Joker still remained hidden. With the prize fund standing at £672 the final three draws were made on our Race night. Two more draws and still no Joker. At this point the organisers were convinced that they had forgotten to put the Joker in and were making plans to emigrate! The 53rd and final draw was made by new member Mike Byron and the Joker was unveiled!! Congrats Mike.
Finals Weekend
For our finals weekend the weather remained dry and bright. Despite the forecast. The Mens and Ladies singles were won by Mike
Richardson and Wendy Collyer. This was Mike’s 14th singles win and Wendy’s 5th. Two formidable forces!

Race Night
“What a night”! On Friday evening, over 70 club members, partners and guests attended our annual Fun Horse Racing Night. After a fantastic meal provided by our Master Chef, Roger Wesley, we studied the form of the runners in eight races, and put our bets on. Small fortunes were made, and lost!
Next year I think I will just send Mike all the money in my wallet!!
