Ride for Willen
Le Grand Depart
On Saturday 19th September, 30 local cyclists set off from the Eiffel Tower Paris on an 800 mile bike ride to Nice. This
ride will see them take on some of the most challenging climbs in Europe including Alpe D’Huez and the infamous Mont Ventoux. As well as lots of uphill work there will also be lots of downhill work where the riders will point their legs out to the side and scream weee as they accelerate down the mountain! If you have ever taken part in any similar events you will appreciate the level of planning that has taken place just to get the riders to the start line. Committee members in particular, have seen this event take over their lives for the past 12 months and will be relieved to finally get on the bike and only have to worry about getting the 100 miles daily route completed. The WAGS (wives and girlfriends of the riders) have also bonded together to offer support to the scheduled fundraising events and also arranging their own events. Support drivers have signed up to drive the four vans to Paris then very slowly to Nice, while supporting the riders, and then charge the length of the country
again to return the vans back to the UK.

In the modern world we live in, donations have come in from all over the globe, but we would like to say a special thanks to the people of Olney and the surrounding villages who have provided ongoing support throughout the many events we have run. All in all, it has been an epic journey just to get to the start line and now the real journey begins...
