It was to appear in an article that they were running about the urgent need for an Olney bypass. In this shot taken between The Swan and what was then Barkers Bakery in High Street South, I tried to emphasise the dangers of having large vehicles passing so close to pedestrians with my wife Susan bravely acting as model pushing a pram with our then 6 month-old son Matthew %u2013 now 50 of course!Since then, the traffi c fl ows have increased out of all proportion as have the size of the HGVs, and yet still no bypass. These days a lame, laissezfaire acceptance of the fact that we won%u2019t ever get a bypass seems to have set in, but surely, anyone who cares about Olney should still be putting pressure on our MP to resurrect a route proposal which would transform the town and be so good for both businesses and the townsfolk?Trevor YorkePicture from 1975 of the approach into OlneyMy husband Christian took a car load of donations this Tuesday, as did Lynne from Olney; another volunteer who goes nearly every other week and makes up %u2018comfort bags%u2019 for the soldiers on the front line. You can take donations directly and speak to one of the volunteers who would love to tell you more and get you more involved or we can take them for you. We could give you a lift one Tuesday lunch time if you like? These are legitimate hard working volunteers; doing their very best for Ukraine. If you are going yourself, please just double check with us before; we have had one Tuesday where no volunteer could open up.I hope that helps and thank you for collecting items; it is so needed. Please note all these people are volunteers; including myself so it can be diffi cult to have everything perfect and on top of that a lot of volunteers are Ukrainian and coping with a diff erent language or work and possibly family back in Ukraine whose homes have been destroyed; many have lost loved ones so things are difficult too, as you can well imagine. It is a sensitive and particularly diffi cult time.Alex Thomsen
